Counselling Tasmania recognises that people contacting a counselling service or practitioner directory may provide particularly private or sensitive information.
We aim to collect only information reasonably necessary for the purpose for which a person contacts us and to handle that information responsibly and securely.

Practitioner Referrals/Enquiries
Where you ask us to connect you with or send an enquiry to a practitioner, relevant information may be provided to that practitioner for the purpose of responding to your request.
Once you independently engage a practitioner, that practitioner may collect and maintain their own client and health records.
The practitioner's own privacy policy and professional obligations will generally govern information collected directly by that practitioner.
Sensitive Information
Health and counselling information may constitute sensitive information.
Where Counselling Tasmania itself collects sensitive information, we aim to limit collection to what is reasonably necessary and obtain consent where required.
Marketing
Providing counselling-related information or making an enquiry should not automatically subscribe someone to unrelated marketing.
Where we seek consent for marketing communications, this should be clearly distinguished from the person's counselling enquiry.
Commercial electronic marketing must comply with Australian spam requirements, including applicable consent, sender identification and unsubscribe requirements.
Security and Retention
We take reasonable measures appropriate to our circumstances to protect information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
Information should only be retained while reasonably required for the relevant purpose or applicable legal obligations.

You may contact us to request access to, or correction of, personal information held about you, subject to applicable legal exceptions.
